The new Wifcon should be up and running by Monday, March 10. The home page will be updated and the Forum will be operational. Additional updates and changes will be made within a few week after that, but existing pages will be operational pending the further updates.

@OverThinking Thank you.

To all,

The homepage will be updated as Friday. When you go to wifcon.com on Monday you will see a brief announcement by the new operators, then a link to the homepage. At the homepage you will see the same three-column format, but notice a slight reorganization of the information in each column and other small design changes. Nothing else will be changed, and no old information will be deleted.

In coming weeks each page, except the Forum, will be slightly reorganized to make it more accessible. Again, no information will be deleted.

In time there may be some new rules for Forum participation, but nothing drastic.

Expect the occasional glitch. Even Bob had them. 😀

Well, there are a number of glitches, but at least we finally have an update and the sites is being tended.

I'm told that the site files are so numerous (many thousands, going back a quarter of a century), complicated, and obscure that it is very hard to sort things out. Some information may have to be discarded before the site can be fully modernized and updated. The expense would be too great. It has already run to thousands of $$$.

Hang in there.

The updates begin on March 1. No attempt will be made to close the gap between last September and March 1, 2025.

Give them time.

@FrankJon It appears to have turned out to be a lot of work. I couldn't believe how many thousands of pages had accumulated over the years. I know absolutely nothing about websites (I'm trying to read up), but people who do were stymied. It appears that a lot of work remains to be done, so be patient with those folks. They have great plans once they can get their feet fully on the ground. They're all doing their own work as well as their volunteer work.

I know just enough about websites to imagine how complicated assuming the site might be.  Lots of tools and products evolved over the past quarter century.  Just about all are replaced with numerous versions, most are only compatible with existing data for a short period.  Plus many products are just consumed by other providers with something completely different requiring expensive conversion.  I think Bob did most of this by himself except for a few instances where he said he used specialized consultants.  I’m sure much of Bob’s work is not documented because people believe they will be around forever.  We are burying my father-in-law soon and the family is going through a similar situation.

@formerfed I was shown a scroll files list. It was indecipherable to me, of course, but it was shockingly long, and each must be attended to. I think they will limit archives for the forum in the future, but I'm not sure. No more access to 10 year old posts. Other stuff is going to have to be discarded. There is a lot of work still ahead. But updates of the home page will continue and the homepage content will be expanded. The emphasis will be less on keeping the old and more on getting what's new.
