Can the FAR52.216-22 date legally be changed in the 5th Orrington period of a 5-year FFP IDIQ contract?

The contract shall govern the Contractor’s and Government’s rights and obligations with respect to that order to the same extent as if the order were completed during the contract’s effective period; provided, that the Contractor shall not be required to make any deliveries under this contract after _______________ [insert date].”

Depending upon the circumstances, the date might be bi-laterally modified.

The government could not unilaterally extend the date, as it would affect the rights of the contractor(s).

It might be able to unilaterally shorten the date, [edit: if it ] would not adversely affect the rights of the contractor(s).

I should add that shortening the date to benefit one contractor but not others might not be possible. If there is a singular contractor and shortening the date would benefit it, consideration from the contractor might be necessary.
